Corny Photos

I posted a photo last month of one my cats sitting at the table about to engage in a full scale assault on an ear of corn. This was an old photo from when he was a kitten.

As Alexi has gotten older, he demands access to the corn as soon as it comes out of the boiling water. After it cools, I cut off 30 or 40 kernels for him, which he quickly devours. But sometimes, that’s not enough …

Here’s Alexi after he has stalked and trapped an ear of corn in the wilds of my living room.

Alexi trapping corn

After trapping the ear of corn, he proceeded to bite off any remaining kernels. Then, he moved on to trying to eat the cob whole.

Finally, once he had torn away any visible remnants of corn kernels, he licked the cob end to end to siphon off any remaining corn juice.

Disclaimers: An ear of corn was injured in the filming of this spectacle. No digital editing wizardy was used in the composition of these photos. That’s a real organic ear of corn and a real 19 pound cat.

I was surfing on your page….your page showed up when I typed cats and corn. I was curious to find info because my cats likes to roll around on the stock of corn. She goes nuts. My cat is a tuxedo as well.

Love the pictures! What IS it with cats and corn? They like it and they can’t even digest it. I once had a cat who liked corn chips so much that he asked for them as he lay dying.

Weird! We found out recently that my wife’s cat loves eating corn as well. Sox is a tuxedo cat. Wonder if that’s common to that type of cat?

Alexi’s brother, Nicholas, is also a tuxedo cat (though Nick has medium length hair and is only 17.5 pounds), but he has shown very little interest in corn. Alexi is always interested in what my wife and I are eating, but Nick almost never is. Alexi also loves bread, chicken, ham, and rice. They both like fish, but Alexi much prefers roasted chicken and Nick actually prefers dry cat food. When it comes to bread, Lex’s fave is a sourdough baguette from Grace Baking, though he has been known to rip through two plastic bags to get at pita bread.
